Cameo Cleaners Tailor Sprinkles a Little Fairy Dust

Cameo Cleaners involvement with Operation Fairy Dust does not stop once the spring event is over. The master tailor, Rafael Nunez is currently working on one of the coveted Oscar De La Renta gowns for Sarah Etuk, an 18 year old senior from Harlem who attended the Operation Fairy Dust event at Brooklyn Borough Hall on April 17,2010.

The head turning black gown with a lace bodice, and voluminous tulle skirt was the 16th dress she had tried on that day. After numerous attempts, Sarah knew this dress was for her the moment she zipped it up.

After speaking with owner & dress expert, Jerry Pozniak about her dress needs Sarah and her mother visited Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park to meet with the tailor for the first time. Rafael spent quality time adjusting and readjusting the material of this gown with Sarah to ensure that the look was appropriate for a high school age girl. This is true of all the work Rafael performs as he is very diligent and patient with all Cameo clients who trust him to alter their couture gowns.

Rafael certainly has his work cut out for him with Sarah’s gown, for the tulle ballroom skirt was damaged from being tried on so many times, and the man layers of tulle were very overwhelming on her slender figure. The tailor at Cameo Cleaners chose to remove the bottom layer of tulle from the gown to transform the overall look from Hollywood glamor to high school prom. The material on the back was also closed by Rafael, so that it resembles a bridal bustle and will not interfere with Sarah’s ability to move at the prom.

Sarah has visited us at Cameo Cleaners multiple times to receive fittings on the gown as is customary when dealing with formal alterations, and has shared with us the many details of her prom ensemble. She has some fabulous black peep toe pumps that match the bustle in the back almost perfectly. She also has plans to make gloves for herself and a tie for her date out of the extra tulle fabric from the dress.

This fashionista’s requests will be no trouble for our master tailor, as he consistently helps many in Manhattan to look their best.appropriate that we should get such a fashionista in our store.

Sarah’s prom is  Memorial day weekend, and with her new prom dress she is sure to look like a million bucks- for free. We hope that Sarah will come back to visit us after her prom and share her pictures, so that we can enjoy her Cinderella moment.

All Day Style Formula

I ran across a great article in today’s Wall Street Journal about how Nina Garcia from Marie Claire and Project Runway survives 15 hour days with style.

Ms. Garcia suggests starting each day with layers of clothing that can be removed during the day to create new looks.

As the day progresses into evening, Ms. Garcia likes to reveal more skin and this can be achieved at the office by going for less flash during the day if needed.

Makeup on the other hand should be lightly applied during the early part of the day and added for a more dramatic look for evening.

Assesories can be used to dress up an outfit to transition from day to evening according to Ms. Garcia. The full WSJ article can be read here.

Comfortable clothing will also make a long day less of a chore. Having your clothing properly altered will allow you to feel better about yourself. Constantly tugging at your skirt because it just isn’t right is too much work.

The alterations team at Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers can make everything you wear perfect.

When you need alterations Long Island or alterations Manhattan you know who to call.

How to use a tailor

Silly statement don’t you think. How to use a tailor; everyone knows what a tailor does.

Or do you?

Besides the usual mending of loose buttons, stuck zippers and having your shortened, are you aware of the services a great tailor can provide?

Here is a list of little known things that can be accomplished with tailoring.

  1. Making clothes truly fit. Have something in the back of your closet that never “feels right”. Most of the time we can fix this for you. As they used to say on Saturday Night Live, “When you look good you feel good.”
  2. Change the style of a garment. Within reason some garments can be altered to give you a new look.
  3. Repair rather than replace. In many occasions it will cost you less to repair a garment than replacing it.

At Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers we have truly “great” tailors that are wizards. Bring us something that you would like us to “save” and we will give you an honest assessment of the feasibility.

So when you are looking for a tailor Manhattan, tailors Long Island or alterations in Manhattan, just give us a ring and we will take great care of both you and your garments.

Thanks for listening. Jerry Pozniak, owner.
