First Class Airline Seat and the Gown.

We got an interesting phone call last week; a prospective client called from Canada. She was flying to New York for her daughter’s wedding and wanted to hire Cameo Cleaners to hand-press her Carolina Herrera gown in her hotel room right before the wedding.
She was flying in on Friday evening and the wedding was Saturday, she needed the dress by noon, time was not on our side. She also wasn’t too keen on letting the dress out of her sight.
If we couldn’t take on the project she was going to have the dress pressed in Canada and bring it on the plane. She wasn’t going to put the Herrera in the overhead bin she was going to buy the dress a seat, a first class seat.
Shop manager Marc Richardson took the call and pulled up an image of the dress off of the internet. Blake Lively wore the Herrera gown on Gossip Girl so there were pictures everywhere.
At first he was going to send our senior gown finisher to the hotel, but after looking at the construction of the gown he decided that the gown would need to go to our workshop if we were going to press it properly. Marc’s a perfectionist, it has to be right or it doesn’t go out.
He called the client back and told her to save her money and not to buy the first class seat for the gown, he had the solution. He arranged to have our driver pick up the gown on Friday night and bring it our workshop. Normally our staff is off on Saturday so he brought in our gown finishing expert, Rosanna and a cleaning technician just in case.
Rosanna spent over two hours meticulously steaming and hand pressing every inch of the gown, and thankfully the cleaning technician wasn’t needed. The gown was packaged and whisked back to the client’s Park Avenue hotel. The wedding went perfectly and the mother of the bride looked beautiful; plus she saved the cost of a first class seat.
Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park is known for never saying no. If we cannot take on your project, than it just cannot be done. We can clean and press just about anything make of fabric, leather or suede anywhere. Contact us, you will not be disappointed.
Alexander Wang Selects Cameo Cleaners
Only three years after his debut into the main fashion circuit Alexander Wang is already transforming his signature look into a thing of the past. Keeping up with his casual cool and urban feel Wang’s latest collection reveals a softer pallet favoring neutrals over his preferred arrangements of black and gray.
Late yesterday afternoon Cameo Cleaners received a call from the office of Alexander Wang requesting a pickup to prepare their runway items for showroom display.
The catch?– The items need to be cleaned and returned by tomorrow evening due to the showroom schedule. After receiving the pieces at Cameo Cleaners early this morning this will leave our expert cleaning technicians a little over 24 hours to hand clean the 13 couture pieces from the Alexander Wang Spring 2011 collection.
The silhouettes of the collection are complimented dashes of copper paint, sequins, and buckles causing these pieces to be difficult to clean and not suited for our cleaning machines despite the gentleness of our ECO2 Cleanse process.
Featured below are a few of the pieces that arrived in our store this morning. Do you recognize any from the runway?
For all your cleaning needs couture or otherwise you know that the experts at Cameo Cleaners will always treat your wardrobe with the utmost care and concern, and on a schedule that is convenient for you.

As many of you may know October is breast cancer awareness month and as a growing trend many fashion retailers and designers promote special products during this time with all proceeds benefiting breast cancer awareness, education, and prevention.
As a lover of all things pink I have no difficulty indulging in all these customized goodies ranging from the obvious to obscure, but if you default to the more neutral colors of the fashion spectrum maybe one of the home or beauty items is up your alley.
Designers like Ralph Lauren, Lilly Pullitzer, BCBG, Marc Jacobs, and Donna Karen just to name a few have all released limited edition items available during the month of October. Show your support by purchasing in any of these items from food, beauty products, artwork, and skincare.
Regardless if you’re newly acquired items are displaying the favored tone of bubble gum, Cameo Cleaners can still tend to all your cleaning needs- whether it be laundry, dry cleaning, or tailoring. All you have to do is call.

I don’t care much for love, but I do know that everywhere you turn in New York City fashion is in the air.
Whether you can’t wait to dive into your fall wardrobe after those brisk nights we had over the weekend, or the hype for fashion week and fashion’s night out has got you all a buzz it is impossible to deny the electricity surging through every fashion minded individual in all the boroughs.
Luckily, your summer clothes are cleaned( by Cameo Cleaners or Arthur Copeland) and put away to make room in your closet for all the items picked up during Fashion’s Night Out,or for the runway inspired pieces to come after attending Spring 2011 Fashion Week.
Although Fashion Week does not officially begin until tomorrow, things seem to be in full swing at Fashion Week’s new home, Lincoln Center after last night’s fashion show to kick off Fashion’s Night Out. Models and designers alike arrived sporting the limited edition t-shirts on city buses, as they than either sashayed down the runway or towards their seats.
This entrance on buses is just one factor of the new direction Lincoln Center Fashion Director, Stephanie Winston Workoff hopes to take the fashion industry in New York towards. As quoted in The New York Times, Workoff wants to ” bring fashion week to the people…removing the exclusivity of accessibility to the events and designers.”
Hosting all events in a space that is not only physically accessible, but visually as well such as Lincoln Center allows everyone in New York City to access the happenings that will be occurring over the next week. Workoff has big plans in store for Lincoln Center as the new and permanent home of fashion in New York City.

Zero Waste Design, Zero Waste Dry Cleaning?
Earlier this week The New York Times published an article about zero waste design, essentially creating a garment without the normal 15 to 20% of wasted fabric going into landfills.
This design concept is not as easy as it sounds because when creating a garment the main concerns are fit and fashion. Therefore getting all of the pieces which make up the garment to fit into fabric with minimal waste involves compromises. Some of these compromises will involve supply lines and the existing infrastructure, thus changes which can become very costly.
The zero waste campaign has the potential to be very beneficial to the dry cleaning industry, for it could initiate the shift to environmentally responsible dry cleaning. The secret to responsible dry cleaning lies in the cleaning and packaging methods.
Dry cleaning is a very wasteful industry based on cleaning and packaging processes. Many dry cleaners use wire hangers, reams of tissue and polyethylene bags as part of the process. Though wasteful, this type of packaging does prevent wrinkling and protects the freshly cleaned garments on their trip home.
Before you get too discouraged and swear off dry cleaning listen up for there is an alternative! Many dry cleaners offer re-usable fabric garment bags as well has re-usable plastic hangers. Tissue can be removed from packacking within the body of the garment though wrinkling may occur without this addition.
My shops, Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers offer “Naked Cleaning” which is our dry cleaning process that cleans clothes without harmful petro-chemicals along and offers a re-useable garment bag (from Green Garmento), no tissue packaging and re-useable hangers. What you get back is your wardrobe free of all chemicals and packed without any waste at all!
Our chemical free dry cleaning process is accomplished using the Solvair process which uses liquid CO2 in place of petro-chemicals. You can go to our website for more information.
Thanks for listening. Jerry Pozniak
Are you a Wardrobe Minimalist? How to survive with 6 garments or less.
As much as I hate to admit it I am very guilty of opening the doors to my closet and staring longingly at the vast collection of clothing I have acquired over the years, yet remain immobile uninspired by anything. Coincidentally I do the same thing in front of full refrigerators so maybe we should chalk this one up to indecisiveness?
Anyways back to the wardrobe… I am confident that I am not alone in my inability to select the first, second, or third thing I see in my closet and always coming full circle with the dreaded statement of ” I have nothing to wear.”
This statement is in fact a blatant lie, because I have more than enough to wear… probably enough to keep me outfitted for weeks if not months in fact so what is my problem?
An article in today’s New York Times evaluates this common disposition through a new project that is catching on around the world. It goes by many names some of which include “shopping diet” and ” six items or less” and challenges people to significantly minimize their wardrobe to see if it makes a difference.
This challenge requires that individuals limit themselves to a six item wardrobe for 30 days. Yes, you read that correctly six items of your choice to be mixed and matched and washed and rewashed across the span of one month.
Many claim that nobody notices and while this may be true I would notice and that would bother me enough. That being said I could clearly never manage this challenge despite my creativity and originality when it comes to my wardrobe. Of course I have my favorite jeans or a favorite shirt that I wear more frequently than others, but not twice weekly??
If you are participating in this challenge, or have toned down your wardrobe volume a good dry cleaner is absolutely necessary so that you can maintain the original qualities of this pieces you hold so dearly.
Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers both operate with a CO2 cleaning system so that your clothes float while being cleaned thus significantly decreasing the wear and tear on your pieces during cleaning.
So if you are braver than me and have accepted the challenge of 6 items or less, or perhaps just prefer the life of a minimalist give Cameo Cleaners or Arthur Copeland a call to handle all your cleaning needs, and extend the life of your wardrobe.
Custom Tuxedo Shirt Emergency Cleaning & Restoration
As you may have heard the staff of Cameo Cleaners and Arthur Copeland Cleansers become an intrinsic part of numerous weddings in and around Manhattan and Long Island. Typically it is brides and bridal retailers who rely on the talented staff of these two firms to clean, preserve, or alter their gowns; but that does not mean the services at the stores are limited to bridal care.
On his way out the door last Thursday owner Jerry Pozniak received a call from a top custom shirt maker (who shall remain nameless) who had a very large issue with one of their custom-made tuxedo shirts. A gentleman had returned to the custom shirt maker to retrieve the shirt he would be wearing for his wedding Saturday to discover that the white of the “bib” was quite different from than the balance of the rest of the shirt.
With less than 48 hours until the wedding the manager quickly looked up the number for Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park, as they had come highly recommended by clients as being the best in clothing care. Especially for luxury custom and tailor made items.
Pozniak understanding the severity of the situation waited after regular store hours for the discolored shirt to be delivered, so that he could process it properly to be sent to the production facility that evening so work could begin immediately.
Early Friday morning one of the senior cleaning technicians for Cameo Cleaners and Arthur Copeland set to work to remedy the situation utilizing a very intensive restoration process. This process involves multiple bleaching steps as well as dye stripping. In under 8 hours the technician was able to match the white of the bib front to the rest of the shirt. Restoration jobs such as these typically take up to one week , and our technician was able to complete the task in less than a day.
Once completed the shirt was back on a delivery truck headed for Manhattan ready for the groom to pick up first thing in the morning on the day of his wedding. The groom was undoubtedly grateful, for he has an uncommon sleeve length and purchasing a shirt of the rack to wear during his wedding was not an available option.
For all cleaning needs and emergencies that may present themselves on your wedding day or any regular day call on the experts at Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers.
Send Your Winter Clothes on a Summer Vacation
They say that April showers bring May flowers, and with the weather we’ve had thus far all of New York should be in bloom in no time at all. Despite the damp weather, the temperature does seem to be gradually increasing and the need for your heavy fur, down, and wool garments has become non-existent.
Need to make room for your spring and summer wardrobe? Let Cameo Cleaners NYC and Arthur Copeland Long Island take those bulky items out of your closets and into our summer storage facility.
We do recommend that you have all your winter pieces cleaned prior to storage. Here are a few reasons why cleaning will extend the life of your wardrobe:
- If stains are not removed prior to cleaning they will set and oxidize during the summer months and it may be too late to remove once taken out of storage.
- Make sure your clothing isn’t a late night snack for moths as they are particularly attracted to perspiration, cologne, and stains especially on fabrics such as wool and cashmere.
- You want to make sure that your clothing is fresh for wear next winter when you are ready to wear it, so that you don’t have to send it out for cleaning when you really need it.
Both Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland are running a special now offering FREE storage for all your winter clothing when you pre-pay your cleaning order.* This offer excludes fur, leather, and suede garments
