Put Your Whites Away, It’s Labor Day!
LABOR DAY?! ALREADY!?
Where did the summer go? Whether you are packing your bags this evening for the last weekend of the season, or planning to stay around the city for a relaxing three day weekend I am certain there is one thing that has crossed your mind…
“How am I supposed to wear all of this white and linen in three days before I am forced to retire it to the back of my closet.”
It has been a well established fashion faux pas to wear white after Labor Day. However, fashion expert Charla Krupp challenges this and suggest that those who prefer to keep white in their wardrobe through the fall and winter do so in appropriate materials. While creams and winter whites can be a stunning look on anyone prancing around in linen pants and sheer cotton dresses will earn you some well deserved looks on the street this fall.
For these whites that require storage I would strongly recommend cleaning them before to prevent permanent stains and moth damage. Many clear liquid stains are not visible to the naked eye, however after being put under the bed or in the back of the closet for 9 months that stain will have oxidized and your favorite white dress will be a thing of the past.
Moths are attracted to food, oil, and perfumes so if any of these are lingering on your garments before storage you are risking moth damage to your wardrobe.
To prevent both of these wardrobe maladies from happening simply drop your summer clothes of with the staff at Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park or Arthur Copeland Cleansers who will be more than happy to care for your whites. AFter being cleaned in the exclusive ECO2 Cleanse system your clothes will not only be whiter, but they will be safeguarded for storage and ready for summer 2011.

Questions to ask your Organic Dry Cleaner
In San Francisco there is talk about a “truth in advertis
ing” law when it comes to dry cleaners using “organic” when describing their process.
According to the EPA the only two dry cleaning processes which are considered “safe” are wet cleaning which uses water and CO2 dry cleaning which uses the same stuff that adds “fizz” to your soda.
If you are using an “organic” dry cleaner ask them these questions;
- What are you cleaning my clothes with?
- What makes your process “organic”?
If they don’t answer CO2 or wet cleaning, they are not what they claim to be.
Many dry cleaners who are claiming “organic” in New York City are using a solvent that is made by Exxon-Mobile and is calledĀ DF2000.
It is “organic” if you are a chemist. Chemists also consider gasoline and asphalt organic (because they have a carbon atom in the structure).
Others are using other industrial chemicals such as D-5, a silicone solvent, which is marketed asĀ Green Earth, which may be toxic to the liver.
In the US right now there are less than 35 dry cleaning firms that are cleaning in CO2, and in about 2 weeks our production facility will have the only operational CO2 machine in New York State.
If you want “truly” green, eco-friendly cleaning, your choices are very limited. Luckily if you live in New York City or Long Island we can clean your clothes in CO2 and give you a great result. Our firms have a over 125 years of dry cleaning experience.
Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and Arthur Copeland Cleansers will both be offering Eco2 Cleanse, our CO2 dry cleaning process, as of October 15th, 2009. We have complimentary pick-up and delivery anywhere in Manhattan and Long Island, we also pick-up in select locations in Brooklyn and Queens.
If you have any questions at all about “organic” dry cleaning or CO2 dry cleaning, please contact our staff.
For the best dry cleaner New York City and the best dry cleaner Long Island you do not have to go further. Plus you are getting a truly green way of garment care.
