AVON Calls on Cameo Cleaners
A week ago Cameo Cleaners received a call from a production assistant working on the foreign markets Christmas commercial for cosmetic and wellness brand Avon.
The models being used in the commercial had not been fully fitted for their outfits, and the production assistant needed someone on set that was able to provide last minute alterations, and promptly.
When the shop manager finished the call he knew exactly which of his of able tailors he would send to assist on set the following day. Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park has two exceptional tailors both of whom can care for any and all of your tailoring needs.
The following morning Alaina Zulli was sent to Long Island City and kept very busy fixing neck details, altering hems, seams, and other miscellaneous wardrobe malfunctions over the course of the ten hour shoot.
Even though it is still summer we are already looking forward to the holidays, so we can see for ourselves the magnificent work Alaina did.
If you are looking for a tailor or seamstress in New York City Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park is the place to be.
Men’s Fashion; a True Work of Art
Having never lived among men with a genuine interest or any interest for that matter in fashion ( my father still wears jeans from 1980, and until a recent stint in London my brother was perfectly content to take on the day in gym shorts) bearing that all in mind summertime in New York has been anything but dull.
As an avid reader of the NY Times style section I couldn’t help but to take note that many of yesterdays articles were not only about men’s fashion, but more specifically pants. Call me crazy, but in this 90 degree weather the absolute last thing I am thinking about are pants. I recognize that men’s clothing options are limitedfor it is generally frowned upon to see a man take to the streets in a dress, but then again it’s New York… anything is possible.
After reading both articles I found two striking features I believe are worth mentioning, and in an attempt to be as non-analytical as possible will quickly highlight these two things. First, the similarity. Both articles convey these pants as an artistic expression, a direct correlation to one’s attitude. The difference between the two was the use of the word ” feeling” one article uses feeling to describe texture and the structure of the pants, while the other incorporates uses it as a barometer of one’s mood and individuality.
No matter if you prefer your pants cuffed, pleated, textured, pressed, rolled, plain, pink, or classic Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park can handle each and every need you and your pants could ever have. Pants too long so you have to roll? Come visit our expert tailor so that you can opt to cuff your pants and not act out of necessity.
Cameo Cleaners Tailor Sprinkles a Little Fairy Dust
Cameo Cleaners involvement with Operation Fairy Dust does not stop once the spring event is over. The master tailor, Rafael Nunez is currently working on one of the coveted Oscar De La Renta gowns for Sarah Etuk, an 18 year old senior from Harlem who attended the Operation Fairy Dust event at Brooklyn Borough Hall on April 17,2010.
The head turning black gown with a lace bodice, and voluminous tulle skirt was the 16th dress she had tried on that day. After numerous attempts, Sarah knew this dress was for her the moment she zipped it up.
After speaking with owner & dress expert, Jerry Pozniak about her dress needs Sarah and her mother visited Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park to meet with the tailor for the first time. Rafael spent quality time adjusting and readjusting the material of this gown with Sarah to ensure that the look was appropriate for a high school age girl. This is true of all the work Rafael performs as he is very diligent and patient with all Cameo clients who trust him to alter their couture gowns.
Rafael certainly has his work cut out for him with Sarah’s gown, for the tulle ballroom skirt was damaged from being tried on so many times, and the man layers of tulle were very overwhelming on her slender figure. The tailor at Cameo Cleaners chose to remove the bottom layer of tulle from the gown to transform the overall look from Hollywood glamor to high school prom. The material on the back was also closed by Rafael, so that it resembles a bridal bustle and will not interfere with Sarah’s ability to move at the prom.
Sarah has visited us at Cameo Cleaners multiple times to receive fittings on the gown as is customary when dealing with formal alterations, and has shared with us the many details of her prom ensemble. She has some fabulous black peep toe pumps that match the bustle in the back almost perfectly. She also has plans to make gloves for herself and a tie for her date out of the extra tulle fabric from the dress.
This fashionista’s requests will be no trouble for our master tailor, as he consistently helps many in Manhattan to look their best.appropriate that we should get such a fashionista in our store.
To watch the feature of the Operation Fairy Dust event on the dailynews, and to see Sarah’s dress being worn by another young lady click here.
Sarah’s prom is Memorial day weekend, and with her new prom dress she is sure to look like a million bucks- for free. We hope that Sarah will come back to visit us after her prom and share her pictures, so that we can enjoy her Cinderella moment.

Tailoring Emergencies & Metro North Railroad
I was thinking of how my tailor always goes out of his way to help a client in need of an emergency repair when I ran across an interesting article in the New York Times.
Here in the New York Metro area one of the commuter train lines is Metro North and they have a tailor on hand to take care of such emergencies for their staff.
According to the article, Joseph Cirillo who has been working in a small office in Grand Central Station is retiring, and many of his 800 clients were trying to get some last minute alterations taken care of.
One conductor spoke about ripping the seat of her pants on the train and was able to get Mr. Cirillo to repair them before her next run, 15 minutes later. Now that is great service!
It reminds me of my tailor, Raphael who works at Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park. A new client walked in with his pants torn in the seat. He ripped them at the Starbuck’s on the corner.
Raphael made the repair on the spot. The client relaxed in our fitting room reading the paper and drinking his coffee while Raphael mended the torn seat.
Keep Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park in mind if you have a tailoring emergency. If you don’t live in the Gramercy Park area, we offer free pick-up and delivery to almost all of Manhattan.

Best Tailor in Manhattan, or Best Tailor in NYC?
No, “Tailor Manhattan” is not the title of a new Woody Allen movie, but finding a great tailor in Manhattan can be difficult at best.
Almost every dry cleaner in NYC has a tailor in the window. Sewing machine, lots of thread and even a measuring tape. Are they any good? You don’t want to find out after they have made your sleeves or your dress too short.
Ask your friends and family who they use. Don’t take the easy route and use the nearest tailor. Your clothes are too expensive to make an expensive mistake.
If you need a great tailor in Manhattan for both dresses, sleeves and everything else, just give us a call.
We have locations in Manhattan (Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park) and Long Island (Arthur Copeland Cleansers), and GREAT tailors.
Thanks for listening, Jerry Pozniak.
Ugly Betty and a NYC Tailor
Well not really ugly Betty, but her pretty sister, the actress Anna Ortiz. A few months ago Ms. Ortiz was in need of tailoring for a few skirts and dresses, and the complication was that she
was very pregnant at the time.
Fashion stylist Robert Verdi and picked out some wonderful clothes for Ms. Ortiz, but they all just needed a little help to make them “red carpet” ready.
A call was made to Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park and soon Jerry Pozniak was on his way to Mr. Verdi’s fashionable studio. (It’s Robert Verdi, how could it not be fashionable?)
Ms. Ortiz arrived and the fittings were taken care of. A few dresses, a few skirts and viola! Ready for the red carpet.

Dreams
“Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you…”, Frank Sinatra.
I digress this week. Instead of fashion, this week it’s about 1600 girls.
Girls who dream of going to their high school prom, parents out of work and money problems.
No, this is not going in that direction. This is not about negativity.
This is a thank you.
A thank you to Megan Kerrigan and Rashia Bell for their tireless efforts to make dreams come true. Their organization, Operation Fairy Dust, along with many volunteers made it all possible.
3600 dresses were collected, a high-school cafeteria transformed into a boutique and 1600 girls shopped and smiled.
Smiles of gratitude and empowerment. Girls able to pick, try on, and model. Beaming moms with tear’s streaming. Dreams realized. Problems forgotten even if just for a day.
Do watch this short video, it will make you smile. ( Operation Fairy Dust Video)
Fairy tales do come true. Kudos to Megan and Rashia, true angels.
Thanks for listening. Jerry Pozniak
Worn Clothes Make the Man?
I ran across this article from the Wall Street Journal tonight, it stated that 93% of men and 88% of women wait for clothes to wear out before replacing them.
In the current economy we have been seeing more and more clothes being brought in for cleaning that have “issues”. Thankfully our tailoring team is very talented and we can keep certain garments, “going and going”.
At some point a worn garment gets too worn to mend any longer. I remember one of our tailors working on a garment so threadbare that as it was being sewn, the sewing machine needle was tearing the fabric.
The tailors at Cameo Cleaners and Arthur Copeland Cleansers can refurbish just about anything within reason. Some projects that we have recently accomplished to “save a garment” are:
- Shortening a reversible Zegna trench coat past the area where the coat got caught in the door of a taxi cab. The coat needed to be shortened 5″, but the new length is much more fashionable.
- Changing the neckline, altering the Length and adding a sash of a bridesmaid dress. The client needed something to wear to a formal event and our tailoring team, “re-worked” the dress. It was a total transformation, you never would have guessed it was a bridesmaid dress.
- Re-weave a worn area in the seat of suit pants. The client’s wallet caused the area in his seat to wear out. Our re-weaving team was able to repair the worn area with new fabric to strengthen this area.
Stop by Arthur Copeland Cleansers or Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park with your “worn” garments, maybe our tailoring team can find a way to save them for you.
Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park has a tailoring team that rivals any tailor shop NYC and can take care of any alterations in Manhattan.
Arthur Copeland Cleansers, located in Cedarhust Long Island, can take care of all alterations Long Island.
The Skirt
One of our favorite clients just walked in with a skirt that she needs to have alterations done for an event she is attending in NYC. The skirt is basic and only needs to be let out slightly across the seat.
The point, is that our client needs it right away and we try never to say no. Our tailor head tailor Rafael volunteered to say late and take care of the skirt for our client after-hours tonight. At this time of the year when we are busy, we usually ask for a about a week to return alterations.
Though we had to charge our client extra for the rush, in the end she was very happy as she picked up her skirt the same day she dropped it off, and was able to wear it at her event that evening.
Other tailor shops in NYC are not so accommodating, at Cameo Cleaners we consider ourselves the best tailors in NYC as well as the best dry cleaners in NYC. Why because we pride ourselves by trying never to say no. We always do our best to accommodate our clients.
When you need to have alterations done in New York City give us a call, we will try not to say no.
Tailoring on Long Island
Searching for the perfect fit? Off the rack won’t do? Sometimes you just need a tailor that you can trust.
Tailors are a lot like hairdressers and barbers. You must have a lot of faith in their skills or else you may not like your “look” for weeks to come.
A great tailor will be able to read your body type and adjust your clothes to flatter you. A great tailor will also advise you on projects that may not be “do-able”. A great tailor knows when to say, no.
At Arthur Copeland Cleansers on Long Island and Cameo Cleaners of Gramercy Park in New York City we have two teams of great tailors. Each shop has a team of two tailors so you can come in anytime to have a fitting done.
Our great tailors can make repairs as minor as missing buttons to major alterations such as changing the fit of a dress or jacket.
